Press Report for the “Turkish-Syrian Dialogue Forum” in its first run

There now lives in Turkey in excess of three and a half million Syrian refugees from different Syrian provinces and cities and for various reasons and conditions, the most prominent of which is the war and lack of security in Syrian cities in addition to the regime’s imprisonments and security detainments which have not ceased since the onset of the Syrian revolution, capped off with the Syrians who moved to Turkey for economic and social reasons.

Evaluating the Syrian presence requires an understanding of their hosts, the Turkish people, who have opened their doors to Syrians for many years. From here, and in order to deepen shared understanding and correct misperceptions from both sides and to build direct channels of communication on the mutual concerns and issues of both parties, as well as to explore the prospects of joint action, the first run of the “The Turkish-Syrian Youth Dialogue Forum” was held in Istanbul on Saturday, Safar 11 1440 H. /October 20 2018 with the attendance of 30 Turkish and Syrian youth.

This first meeting of the forum was patronized from the Turkish side by the Turkish humanitarian agency İHH’s youth section, İHH Genç, and its Humanitarian and Social Studies Research Center, INSAMER and from the Syrian side by the Syrian Dialogue Center.

The meeting included two panel discussions. The first session focused on the issues of building shared understanding towards many subjects, especially those which a lack of proper understanding leads to divisions between the two sister societies. The second session focused on laying foundations for Turkish-Syrian projects and initatives that would benefit and deepen partnership and brotherhood between both sides.
