Media report for the seminar “The Horizon for Partial Political Solutions: Beyond the Constitutional Committee”
The perception of a political solution in Syria at the international level has gone through multiple stages. It started with the Geneva Conference I and its implementation concepts that the international envoys to Syria worked on, and then it continued to be the title of Vienna Peace Talks and the Astana and Sochi track, which is a parallel path to Geneva, and it has so far ended with the UNSC 2254 Resolution that stipulated the formation of the Constitutional Committee, whose first session started in mid-2019.
The intertwined international and regional interests have had a direct role in altering the course of the political solution, which is currently confined to the Constitutional Committee, whose success and failure scenarios are linked to international agreements.
Within the framework of its research approach to the outcome of a political solution in Syria, the Syrian Dialogue Center issued a study entitled: “The Horizon for Partial Political Solutions: Beyond the Constitutional Committee”, which has so far included the following versions:
- Developments of the political solution in Syria: from the transitional governing body to the constitutional committee.
- The intersection of international interests with the vocabulary of the political solution in Syria.
- The outcomes of the Constitutional Committee: Will the latency of failure be a motive for a political initiative?
With the aim of discussing the topic further through evaluating and re-visiting previous papers, the Syrian Dialogue Center held an online seminar entitled: “The Horizon for Partial Political Solutions: Beyond the Constitutional Committee” on Saturday 2 Safar 1442 AH, corresponding to 19 September 2020AD, with the participation of a group of experts, researchers and representatives of the revolution and opposition forces.
