Media report for the seminar “Horizon of a political solution in Syria” in cooperation with Fajr Academy

During the past years, several changes and developments have taken place in the political solution. After the Geneva Declaration 1 represented the primary reference for this solution until mid-2015, other documents and references competed later. This competition started with the Vienna Statement 1-2, then Resolution 2254, with the variation in these documents, and the difference in arranging the entrances for the political solution, such as presenting the ideas of the constitution and the election on the idea of “the transitional governing body with full executive powers.

Many questions arise about the prospects for a political solution in Syria in light of these significant changes. On top of these comes the Revolution and Opposition Forces’ supportive community’s main problem: How did we end up here? The answer can help – though partially – in understanding the current political scene and its prospects, followed by repeated questions about the path of the Constitutional Committee and its factors of failure and success, while evoking similar experiences such as the Bosnian experience and the Palestinian experience, in conclusion, by questioning the root of the issue and what Syria needs today, so does Syria need A constitution or what you need is to establish a social contract?

In an attempt to answer these questions, the Syrian Dialogue Center, in cooperation with the Fajr Academy, held a seminar entitled: “The Horizon of a Political Solution in Syria” on the date of Jumada Al-Ula 5, 1442 AH corresponding to December 20, 2020 AD, in the presence of 40 students from the Academy.

The symposium began with a presentation by Dr. Ahmed Qurabi, in which he reviewed the stages and transformations that the political solution in Syria underwent, and then discussed cases similar to the Syrian situation, such as the Palestinian case and the Bosnian case, and what could be learned from these cases, to conclude after that by presenting the relationship between the social contract, the constitution, and the reality of need The Syrian context today, followed by several participants from the audience, which discussed the steps and options available today for the Syrian forces and actors.
