Media Report for the Seminar: “The Scenarios for Northern Syria: Signs of Escalation and the Opportunities of the Safe Zone”

Especially given the recent developments on the ground, which have created a new reality, the revolutionary, humanitarian and political organizations monitor the situation in Northern Syria with great anxiety, as the region is currently inhabited by a population close to 2.5 million.. At the same time as there are ambiguous reports of a gathering of forces to launch a campaign against the region of Idlib, discussion has been dominated by America’s planned  withdrawal of forces and the establishment of safe zone in the region east of the Euphrates.

With the goal of dialogue and discussion on the different aforementioned topics from different political, military and human aspects and in order to arrive to defining the best options available to the revolutionary and opposition forces, the Syrian Dialogue Center held a seminar entitled: “The Scenarios for Northern Syria: Signs of Escalation and the Opportunities of the Safe Zone.” The seminar was held in Antakya on Wednesday, Jamada al-Akhir 1440 H./ February 20, 2019, with a number of activists and representatives from the civil, military and political opposition forces in attendance. The discussions focused on the last developments in Northern Syria, the results of the trilateral summit in Sochi, and the expansion of Hayet Tahrir al-Sham and its effect on the region’s future. The discussions also touched on the path of a political solution and the formation of a Constitutional Committee and its feasibility and the extent to which it would be correct to engage with it or not.
