The media report of the seminar, “The Collapse of Morale Among Syrians: Extent, Impact and Ways to Confront it”

A number of analysts believe that the rapid collapse of the opposition forces in Aleppo following the siege was not due to military reasons as the dense, built-up neighborhoods had a lot of resilience, but the regime rapidly took control of those neighborhoods relative to other areas that largely held up (like Daria town). Therefore, analysts believed that the loss or collapse of morale was a crucial reason for the fall. Nowadays, activists complain about the lack of interaction with various advocacy campaigns at the civil and societal levels.

With the aim of examining this phenomenon, the extent of its impact and the mechanisms of confronting and limiting it, the Syrian Dialogue Center held a dialogue seminar entitled ” The Collapse of Morale Among Syrians: Extent, Impact and Ways to Confront it” on Sunday, 22 Jumada al-Akhera 1441 AH, corresponding to 16 February 2020.

The seminar discussed in its first part the reality of a “a collapse of morale” in the ranks of the revolutionary and opposition forces among various military, political and civil formations, and the extent and depth of its spread. Then, in the second part, the seminar examined the causes of the setbacks and their external and internal causes, and then in the third part the seminar examined psychological warfare, its components, narratives, and ways that can be followed to face it.
