What Does the “SDF” Breach of “Caesar” Sanctions by Providing the Syrian Regime With Oil Mean?
Analytical Article
Despite the issuance of the “Caesar” law and its warnings against economic dealings with the Syrian regime; The Syrian Democratic Forces, known locally as the “SDF” and supported by the United States, have continued to supply the Syrian regime with oil. It does not appear that the transfer of oil from the areas controlled by the SDF to the regime takes place through “smuggling routes” as described by many and reported by some media outlets; Because trucks enter in large numbers, sometimes reaching hundreds, per day, and they enter from the main crossings and roads controlled by the SDF, such as the M4 international road.
This essay examines the backgrounds of the SDF’s violation of the “Caesar” sanctions and their continued supply of oil to the Syrian regime, especially in light of the United States’ protection of oil and gas fields, and the supply operations running before the eyes of the international coalition forces.
