Media report of the seminar “Iranian Cultural Penetration in Syria: its Tools, its Risks, and Ways to Confront It”

Today, soft power, with its various tools, has become one of the most important types of power in the international arena. Like most countries, Iran uses this power and couples it with hard power in its foreign policy, especially towards the Arab region. However, Iran’s intervention in Syria had a special nature. It was not enough for Iran to have mercenary, militia and military presence in Syria, nor did penetrating the security and military services of the Assad regime satisfy Iran; rather, it has been working to reinforce this rough intervention with multiple soft tools to further penetrate the cultural and social spheres of Syria.

Monitoring Iran’s efforts to penetrate the Syrian cultural sphere on all religious, educational, social, cultural and demographic levels, and to demonstrate the danger of the cultural war waged by Iran against the Syrian identity, the Syrian Dialogue Center issued, within the framework of its research approach to this topic, a study entitled “Iranian cultural penetration in Syria : Its tools, its risks, and ways to confront it. The study included the following four publications:

  • Iranian cultural penetration in Syria (1): Religious tools
  • Iranian cultural penetration in Syria (2): Educational and Social Tools
  • Iranian Cultural Penetration in Syria (3): Media and Demographic Tools
  • Iranian cultural penetration in Syria (4): Its dangers to the Syrian identity and ways to confront it

With the aim of further discussing the efforts that can be utilized to address the Iranian cultural penetration in Syria, the Syrian Dialogue Center held the seminar “Iranian cultural penetration in Syria: its tools, risks, and ways to confront it” on Saturday 23 Safar 1442 AH, corresponding to 10 October / October 2020 AD, with the participation of a number of specialists, experts and activists in Syrian affairs
