Summary of the Analysis Paper: “Iranian-Affiliated Militias in Syria: Their Influence on the Region and Future”

This paper entitled “ Iranian-Affiliated Militias in Syria (3): Their Influence on the Region and Future,” which is the third part of the Iranian-Affiliated Militias in Syria series published by the Syrian Dialogue Center, seeks to  understand the influence of the presence of these militias on the interests of local, regional and international actors  in the Syrian issue, and the study its repurcussions for the neighbouring and regional states, which would help in deducing the future of these militias in Syria, and their influence on a political solution.

This concluding paper comes after the first report that was published by the Syrian Dialogue center: “Categorization, Dependency and Factors of Mobilization” which presented the structure of these foreign militias which Iran brought in from outside Syria as well as of local militias which it recruited. It also threw light on the means and tools which enabled Iran to mobilize these numbers. This paper also comes after the second research paper that was entitled “Iranian-Affiliated Militias in Syria (2) Roles and Areas of Influence” which studied the role that these militias have played over the past few years and follows the transformations which have taken place as they move from purely military roles to forms of economic, social and religious domination.
